UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration 2021-2030
The focus is on turning degraded land into healthy land.
It shall result in cleaner air and water, extreme weather mitigation, better human health, and recovered biodiversity, including improved pollination of plants.
This shall bring economic resilience, create jobs, raise incomes and increase food security. It shall also help biodiversity to recover and shall guarantee the long-term survival of people and the planet.
Commitments from over 100 countries specify the restoration of almost 1 billion hectares of land over the next decade – an area almost the size of China.

Every 1 USD invested in restoration creates up to USD 30 in economic benefits.

The target is to keep global temperature rise well below 2 degrees Celsius.

Degradation is already affecting the well-being of an estimated 3.2 billion people – that is 40 percent of the world’s population.

Agroforestry alone has the potential to increase food security for 1.3 billion people.It can help avoid 60 percent of expected biodiversity extinctions.
